The Greatest Teams To Ever Touch The Pitch

Soccer is an amazing sport and there have been some amazing teams that have played the game. If we talk about national teams, then the Brazil team that contained the likes of Pele was definitely special. He managed to win more than one World Cup and was a true great at his sport. There is also Maradona and the Argentine side that he almost single handedly lead to World Cup glory. Everyone remembers his “Hand of God” goal against England, but some forget that he went past 5 or 6 England players from the half way line to the goal to score the winner in that same game. He was an inspiration and a legend.

Every great team has a great superstar. However, sometimes the collective is greater than the parts that it contains. Manchester United’s 1999 treble winning team was certainly that. This was a team consisting of great players, but it was the squad and the unit that won them all those trophies. They became the first European club to ever win their domestic league, domestic cup and the European Cup all in one season. To highlight what a team effort it was, the two players who scored the two goals to win them the European Cup did not even start the game, they were substitutes. David Beckham was the one superstar who shone above all others and really helped them to glory.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have an amazing winning tradition. Madrid have won 9 European titles and Barcelona have won 2 out of the past 3 and 3 out of the past 6. With Messi, Xavi, Iniesta and the rest, they have been truly unstoppable.

Sometimes football throws in a surprise and it is nice to see unfancied teams doing well. Greece won Euro 2004 when no one would have given them a prayer and Jose Mourinho led Porto to UEFA Champions League glory that same year when the likes of AC Milan, Manchester United and Real Madrid were all surprisingly defeated by a string of unfancied clubs. What’s 1 more click?
